Men in Fostering
Course Description

In-House Certification

3 hours

Group

This three hour workshop is aimed at male foster carers whether they are single carers, primary or secondary carer or a same sex partnership. Men can often be an undervalued resource in the Foster Care environment and a possibly neglected group that don’t always get a chance to air their issues and be heard.

In an all-male setting we explore the feelings, anxieties and difficulties related to being a male carer. The workshop gives the men time that is solely aimed at them, where they can speak openly and confidentially about their experiences with a group that probably have or will go through similar challenges at some point.

The men in fostering course is proving a very popular session and the carers who have attended have said it was a great experience.

” Spot on! Nice relaxed course that gave us an opportunity to open up”

“Really good to have a chance to just talk with other guys about fostering”

Attendees will be able to:

Discuss the role of men in fostering and what constitutes a positive male role model
Explore how male carers are perceived by professionals, children and young people
Assess and recognise how men contribute to the development of children and young people
Understand aspects of safer caring in relation to the male carer
