This is a two day course that explores the law regarding physical intervention and restraint and then teaches staff physical techniques including disengagement, defence techniques, basic guiding and holding/restraint techniques for varying risk levels. This course can be run as an accredited course by the ICM (only £50 additional fee)
These techniques are currently being taught to various personnel working within the NHS, residential & nursing homes, schools, retail establishments, and other organisations.
Physical intervention techniques taught on course have been medically risk assessed and meet:-
NHS Guide lines in Breakaway and Physical Intervention
MAPPA Guide Lines on Physical Intervention
BILD Guide lines on the use of Physical Intervention
Institute Of Conflict Management Guide Lines on the use of Physical Intervention Techniques
Attendees will be ABLE to:
- Understand 'reasonable force'
- Recognise the benefits of non-physical techniques
- Understand the law relating to Self Defence and Physical Intervention
- Perform a dynamic risk assessment
- Identify the importance of recording and debriefing
- Demonstrate effective physical techniques (including- wrist, hair, throat and clothing grabs, punches, kicks, third party assistance and escorting/guiding techniques)
- Demonstrate effective 2 and 3 person restraint techniques in standing, walking and sitting positions (can include bed)
- Practice and reflect the importance of 'Letting Go' safely
- Practice effective escalation and de-escalation of techniques
