    This single day Train the Trainer course provides an understanding and awareness in the subject of Ligatures and ligature reduction protocol. Upon completion of the course attendees will be able to deliver Ligature Awareness and Protocol Awareness training to groups of learners in-house. The full day course is designed to give delegates the skills and confidence to reduce, assess and manage incidents of ligature as well as share this information with others.

    What is covered:

    The training explores the dangers of ligature events and the risks to staff and individuals. The course encourages attendees to assess their own environment, outlining the benefits of risk assessment with a focus on risk reduction and incident prevention, and instructs delegates how to spot potential ligature points.  Delegates are then instructed in the safe and appropriate practices in the event of a person self-ligaturing, including how to appropriately manage a situation and safely use ligature cutters with an opportunity for physical demonstration, a scenario workshop, and practice.

    Who is the course for?

    This full-day training course is designed for in house trainers that want to be able to deliver in-house training in ligature audits, risk assessments and safe use of managing ligature events. Attendees must evidence knowledge and experience in teaching BSL skills in order to attend the course. E.g teaching qualification and First Aid at Work Qualification.

    What will you achieve?

    Attendees will be able to:

    • Understand definitions of terms and guidelines around the use of ligature cutters and suicide prevention.
    • Outline the benefits of an environmental assessment and risk reduction policy.
    • Perform an environmental suicide and ligature point risk assessment.
    • Support good practice in assessing and removing potential ligature material.
    • Safely use and store ligature cutters and follow correct procedures in the event of use both during and after.
    • Perform emergency procedures and Basic Life Support (BLS).
    • Demonstrate appropriate use of a ligature cutter.
    • Understand the process and procedures involved in delivering a theory-based and practical skills course in ligature protocol.

    To attend this course learners must provide evidence of an in date First aid qualification.
