Many schools, children homes and other settings that support children and young people need their staff trained in physical and non-physical techniques to assist them with personal safety, the safety of others and supporting children with particular behavioural difficulties. Staff have a duty of care to the individuals but also themselves. A BBC report in 2014 found that more than half of UK state school staff have faced aggression from students for example.
Able Training delivers training in managing aggression and managing challenging behaviour to a variety of child and young person environments. From pre-schools to colleges, foster care to children’s homes, youth groups to independent living, we can offer training to meet your organisations needs whether working with SEN children or behaviour that challenges.
Our training courses are based on a person centred approach to conflict and difficult behaviour using the Able 6-Stage Target Model. We teach the principles of positive behavioural support, managing behaviour that challenges, de-escalation, and conflict management and then if required developing the skills of physical intervention and restraint only as a last resort. Following the latest guidelines outlined by the DofE 2013 Use of reasonable force in schools, foster care standards/Coram Baaf, children’s homes regulations and meeting the standards outlined by regulating bodies like Ofsted.
The courses have been created to adapt to the needs of your setting. Whether you require de-escalation, conflict management, positive behavioural support, disengagement and restraint training, safe holding, therapeutic holding or positive handling we can help.
See the risk assessment above to help you decide the level of training you require.
