Frequently Asked Questions

What are the steps for PEG feeding?
PEG feeding involves inserting a tube directly into the stomach for people with trouble eating. Doctor consultation is the first step. The procedure involves light sedation, then an endoscope is inserted through the mouth and a tube through a small incision on the abdomen to the stomach. A tube is placed in the correct position and the incision is closed. The tube is then used to feed direct to the stomach.
The first step in administering PEG feed is performing aseptic handwashing to minimize infection risk. Wet hands with warm water, apply soap, lather for at least 20 seconds cover all surfaces, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a clean disposable paper towel. After this, proceed with the feeding process.
PEG feeding training teaches people how to safely give food directly to someone’s stomach through a feeding tube.
