CPR & AED (Defibrillator) Training Overview:
Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the UK’s biggest killers and, following a cardiac arrest, every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces a casualty’s chance of survival by 10%. The QA Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (QCF) qualification has been designed to provide candidates with the skills needed to administer safe, prompt and effective basic life support and use an AED safely in emergency situations. Delegates gaining this qualification will have learned that Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillation form an essential part of the chain of survival.

What is covered:
The topics covered are regarded by Skills for Health as being important to maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation. They include:
Chain of survival
Assessing an incident
Managing an unresponsive casualty
AED safety considerations
Procedures for when Emergency Services arrive
Who is the course for?
This course is recommended for first aiders in the workplace environment who have access to a defibrillator.

- Understand basic life support requirements
- Demonstrate basic life support techniques and automated external defibrillator use in line with current national guidelines
- Carry out basic user maintenance and troubleshoot problems with an automated external defibrillator
- Understand the safe use of an automated external defibrillator
