Frequently Asked Questions

What is food safety awareness?
Food safety awareness involves understanding the practices and procedures necessary to ensure food is safe to consume, preventing foodborne illnesses. Key components include knowledge of foodborne pathogens, proper food handling and storage techniques, personal hygiene, preventing cross-contamination, understanding food labels, adhering to regulatory standards, handling food safety emergencies, consumer education and ongoing training for food handlers. This awareness aims to minimise health risks and ensure food is handled, prepared and stored safely.
The five principles of food safety are: Cleaning hands, surfaces, utensils, and equipment often. Separating raw foods separate from cooked foods and using different cutting boards. Cooking foods to the correct temperatures using a food thermometer. Refrigerate perishable foods promptly and thaw them safely. Use separate utensils and cutting boards for raw and cooked foods.
Many of our courses can be adapted for both classroom settings or virtual platforms like zoom. Some courses that include a practical aspect can only be delivered in a classroom setting.
