Our Supporting LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Dementia Care course explores the important intersection between dementia and LGBTQ+ identity. We look at the unique challenges and barriers that may arise, and most importantly, how we can adapt our care practices to be genuinely inclusive and person-centred.
We’ll explore real-world examples, from understanding the correct use of language to recognising when past discrimination might be influencing a person’s behaviour or trust in services. You’ll leave with practical tools and strategies to ensure every individual — regardless of sexuality or gender identity — feels safe, respected, and understood.
What you'll learn.

- Have an awareness of dementia and its specific impact on LGBTQ+ individuals.
- Understand what LGBTQ+ means and the diversity within these communities.

- Understand how to support a person’s sexuality when living with dementia and why this is vital to their wellbeing.
