Frequently Asked Questions

What is Personal Care?
Personal care refers to the assistance provided to individuals with daily living activities related to hygiene and personal appearance. This support is often necessary for people with disabilities, older adults, or those recovering from illness or injury. Common personal care tasks include bathing and showering, oral hygiene, dressing and grooming, toileting assistance, skincare and hair care. Personal care is essential for maintaining physical and mental well-being, preventing infection, and promoting dignity and independence. It is often provided by family members, caregivers, or healthcare professionals.
Pressure care is the term used to describe the prevention and management of pressure ulcers, also known as bedsores. These are injuries to the skin and underlying tissue caused by prolonged pressure on the skin. The goal of pressure care is to maintain healthy skin and prevent the development of pressure ulcers.
Providing personal and pressure care involves challenges such as physical strain from mobility assistance, time constraints balancing multiple tasks, and managing sensitive skin and incontinence. Communication difficulties with those who have cognitive impairments and maintaining dignity are also significant. Infection prevention, staffing shortages, and resource limitations can further complicate care delivery.
