Frequently Asked Questions

What is an advanced form of dementia?
Advanced dementia is the severe stage of dementia where individuals experience significant cognitive decline and require extensive support with daily activities. They may have difficulty communicating, moving, and recognising people or places.
1. Communication difficulties: Struggling to speak, understand, or respond. 2. Increased dependence: Difficulty with daily tasks like eating, bathing, and dressing. 3. Behavioural changes: Agitation, restlessness, or wandering. 4. Physical decline: Challenges with walking, eating, or swallowing. 5. Loss of awareness: Reduced understanding of surroundings and people.
There is currently no cure for advanced dementia. While medications can help manage some symptoms, they do not stop the progression of the disease. The focus of care shifts to managing symptoms, providing comfort and ensuring the individual’s quality of life.
